Brief description:
In a world where women have no rights, sisters Serina and Nomi Tessaro face two very different fates: one in the palace, the other in prison.

Serina has been groomed her whole life to become a Grace–someone to stand by the heir to the throne as a shining, subjugated example of the perfect woman. But when her headstrong and rebellious younger sister, Nomi, catches the heir’s eye, it’s Serina who takes the fall for the dangerous secret that Nomi has been hiding.

Now trapped in a life she never wanted, Nomi has only one way to save Serina: surrender to her role as a Grace until she can use her position to release her sister. This is easier said than done. A traitor walks the halls of the palace, and deception lurks in every corner. But Serina is running out of time, imprisoned on an island where she must fight to the death to survive and one wrong move could cost her everything.

If you are looking for a short, fast-paced book that is full of deception, surprises and amazing characters, then look no more as this is the book for you!

I had no idea what I was getting myself into once I picked this book up, all I knew was that in this world women are even more oppressed than in any other world I have read about so far, they can’t even learn to read which is crazy to me, but there is so much more to this story. It’s about finding out that to bring about change you have to embrace the change and start to change things yourself. This book has just blown me away and has definitely become one of my favourite reads of this year, I kind of feel like I have been saying that a lot in my reviews but this is definitely a book you will want to pick up. I liked that it is a shorter length than some of the other fantasy books I have been reading recently as it can definitely be read in one day, speaking from experience. It seems like it is a simple book yet the deception and not knowing who to trust and who is the real monster really plays with your mind and you start to question everything that is happening.

We get to follow both Serina and Nomi’s perspectives and at first I thought I enjoyed Nomi’s more but as I got further into the book I just wanted to read from both perspectives as both have such different experiences. Every time a chapter ended I automatically had to read the next as the story was that good and the ending, guys the ending made me want to pick up the sequel straight away so I would advise waiting closer to the release date of the sequel before picking this one up or maybe rereading this before the sequel comes out, which is something I will definitely be doing!

I loved this book so I would highly recommend all of you pick it up, especially if you are interested in it as I don’t think it will disappoint, so far I haven’t heard one negative review. Also if you like fantasy books that have a romance that is not the center of the plot then this is the book for you, I absolutely adored both romances as they weren’t the focal point but still it was nice to read about them whenever they did make a minor appearance.

Hope you enjoyed this review and if you have read the book what are your thoughts on it? I would love to know!

See you in my next post 🙂
