Brief description:
Jack and I, we did everything backward. The day he lured me into his office-which was also the first day we met-he proposed. You’d think a guy who looked like him-a bit cold maybe, but still striking and very unattainable-would only ask the love of his life to marry him, right? You’d think he must be madly in love.

Nope. It was me he asked. A complete stranger who had never even heard of him. A stranger who had been dumped by her fiancé only weeks before. You’d think I’d laugh in his face, call him insane-and a few other names-then walk away as quickly as possible. Well…I did all those things except the walking away part.

It took him only minutes to talk me into a business deal…erm, I mean marriage, and only days for us to officially tie the knot. Happiest day of my life. Magical. Pop the champagne… Not. It was the worst day. Jack Hawthorne was nothing like what I’d imagined for myself.
I blamed him for my lapse in judgment. I blamed his eyes, the ocean blue eyes that looked straight into mine unapologetically, and that frown on his face I had no idea I would become so fascinated with in time.

It wasn’t long after he said I was the biggest mistake of his life that things started to change. No, he still didn’t talk much, but anyone can string a few words together. His actions spoke the loudest to me. And day after day my heart started to get a mind of its own.

One second he was no one. The next he became everything.
One second he was unattainable. The next he seemed to be completely mine.
One second I thought we were in love. The next it was still nothing but a lie.

After all, I was Rose and he was Jack. We were doomed from the very beginning with those names. Did you expect anything else?

Thank you to the author, Ella Maise, for sending me an advanced reader copy of her new novel, Marriage For One!

Going into this novel I had no idea what to expect, it was my first marriage of convenience novel, and I tend to not enjoy reading about rich men getting the girl of their dreams. But this book took me by surprise, from the moment I started it I could not put it down! Ella Maise is an amazing romance author and I will probably forever read anything that she releases as she makes me enjoy tropes/storylines I never thought I would.

In this novel we follow Rose who gets a business proposition from Jack, the cold, calculating and quiet lawyer, to marry him but it will be strictly professional, no romance involved. I loved both Rose and Jack from the start. Rose is such a determined person that she will do whatever it takes to make her dream of opening a coffee shop come true, sign me up for opening a coffee shop with baked good and a small library, I felt like Ella wrote this book specifically for me as that is my dream! Jack is such a sweetheart under his cold demeanor, I can’t believe it took me a couple of pages to fall in love with him, he also reminded me a little bit of me, he is quite the observer, tries to never do things that he will have to apologise for and has his heart in the right place even though he might have gone about some things in not the best of ways. I won’t talk too much about that as I don’t want to spoil the surprise of why this marriage came about. I was actually quite shocked at the revelation at the end of this novel, it was just crazy! Okay, maybe not so crazy to some but to me it was definitely something.

I think my favourite aspect of this novel is the banter between Rose and Jack, his cold sarcastic remarks, and her talking for the both of them were so funny to read about. She was like the complete opposite of Jack but at least she made him come out of his shell, I loved that! Jack didn’t even need to say anything as his actions spoke more than words could have, he cooks, helps Rose set up the coffee shop before the grand opening and so many other amazing things, again I don’t want to say too much as I want him to surprise you like he surprised me.

Hearing that this book was going to be a slow-burn, longer than usual book I thought it would take me a while to read but alas I pretty much read it all in one day. It actually made me so happy that it took Rose and Jack so long to move their relationship along.  If you are scared you might not like Jack as he is quite different to all the other guys Ella Maise has written about then don’t be as I am sure you will for sure fall in love with him like I did and so many other readers have. He is moody but in a good way, it’s actually quite cute. He did remind me a little bit of Adam Connor from To Hate Adam Connor, but he is his own character and such a great one at that. It really surprised me that I loved him as much as I did, as I am with Rose that he is definitely not my type but maybe sometimes you should go for someone that is not “your type”.

Overall, what else can I say? The story is gripping, unputdownable that I am sure you will read all in one day. The characters are great, the coffee shop Around the Corner is adorable and a dream, Ella Maise is amazing and I have no words. I can’t wait to see what she releases next as she is by far my favourite romance author out there. An amazing book and please pick it up if you are in the market for a new romance.

See you in my next post 🙂
